For centuries myths have developed to help explain and
glorify phenomenon or accomplishments that seem beyond our comprehension. These myths were at first past on from generation to generation by oral history. Heroes and villains in these stories have been used as
subjects of artwork and literature since the beginning
of recorded cultural history. Invariably these myths are filled with stories of intense psychological struggle and triumph over enemies and demons. They are a treasure trove of psychological material. When I detect some of these themes coming from a painting in progress, I try to help it force it’s way to the surface.
